TOHOKU Food Marathon 2025: Set for April 20, 2025! Mark your calendar!
TOHOKU Food Marathon 2025 is officially set for Sunday, April 20, 2025. In addition to the popular half marathon, the full marathon is making a comeback after six years! Japanese Registration opens today, November 8, and global registration in Engish will follow soon, so please mark your calendar first!
The event, which began in 2014 with the mission of "connecting Tohoku and the world through marathon running," was originally established to support recovery efforts from the Great East Japan Earthquake. Over the past ten events, the TOHOKU Food Marathon has welcomed over 30,000 runners and approximately 230,000 visitors from Japan and abroad. Celebrating our 11th year, we will once again showcase the food and rich culture of Tohoku through aid stations featuring local delicacies. The 2025 event will feature four categories: the full marathon (limited to 500 participants) returning after a six-year hiatus, the half marathon (3,000 participants), the ASICS Tomorrow Run (a family race with 200 parent-child teams, or 400 participants), and the KIDS Smile Run (invitation-only), which is designed for children with disabilities. Alongside the races, the Tome Food Festival and Tohoku Sake Festival will be held, and various activities are planned to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Tome City's incorporation.
Further details will be shared on our website and SNS, so please stay tuned. We look forward to seeing many participants and visitors!
1) Fresh and Delicious Foods at Aid Stations: Each aid station offers gourmet food from different areas of Tohoku. This event is uniquely known as "the only marathon where you might gain weight by the time you reach the finish line!"
2) Enjoyable Even Without Running: Alongside the marathon, we are hosting a food and sake festival.
3) Costumes Over Rankings: With the same costume theme as the Medoc Marathon, we encourage participants to dress up. The theme for 2025 is "La Mer (the Sea)." The Best Costume Award winner will receive a grander prize than the first-place finisher!
4) Sustainability Focus: In our commitment to sustainability, we encourage participants to bring their own chopsticks and cups. Additionally, we are advancing digitization by implementing QR code timing, digital distribution of finisher certificates, and electronic pamphlets.
